MIRPURKHAS, Oct 7: To protest against the killing of Millat-i-Islamia chief MNA Maulana Azam Tariq, a strike was observed in some cities of Sindh on Tuesday and demonstrations were held in others.

As the city witnessed a strike on the call of the MI, a majority of its business centres and markets remained closed excepting some areas.

After Zohr prayer, a protest demonstration was held outside Madina Masjid by the workers of the MI.

Speaking to the protestors, Khawaja Ishaq, Abdul Majeed Deobandi and Mohammad Shafiq Azad strongly condemned the murder of the MNA and four others and demanded of the government to arrest the culprits.

Raising slogans against the federal interior minister, they held him responsible for the incident and accused a leader of their rival sect of being a part of the “conspiracy”.

NAWABSHAH: A partial strike was observed on the call of the MI here on Tuesday.

Enraged activists of the MI resorted to aerial firing and burnt tyres.

Most parts of the city remained open however some parts of the city remained partially closed.

The MI took out a procession which started from Kabir Mosque and terminated at Golwala Plaza.

The participants were carrying banners and raising slogans against the government.

They said that the government had failed to maintain law and order in the country and demanded the arrest of the killers of Maulana Tariq.

DADU: The activists of the MI held demonstrations in different towns of the district including Mehar, Khairpur Nathan Shah, Kotri, Phulji and Dadu city on Tuesday to protest against the killing of Maulana Tariq.

They were demanding early arrest of the killers.

A big demonstration was held here outside the office of the MI.

KHAIRPUR: A complete strike was observed here as the main markets and bazaars remained closed in protest against the murder of the MNA and his four companions.

Different towns of the district including Thehri, Priyaloi, Pir jo Goth and Kolab Jial also remained closed.

Scores of people converged on National Highway in Thehri on Monday night as a result the highway remained blocked for vehicular traffic.

They raised slogans and marched to the National Highway bypass where they staged a sit-in and set tyres ablaze blocking the road for about one hour.

Some protesters gathered on Kutchehry Road here on Monday night and tried to get the shops closed.

Meanwhile, the police arrested five persons in Thehri and four in Khairpur but set them free later in the evening.

According to the president, Shia Rabita Council, Khairpur, Ali Abbas, the protesters ransacked a seminary, Sultan-ul-Madaris and exploded crackers.

BADIN: A complete strike was observed in Matli to mourn the death of Maulana Tariq.

The strike call was given by the local leaders of the MI through loudspeakers in the mosques.

A large number of the people who came from the rural areas gathered at Kashmiri Mohalla and formed a huge rally.

SUKKUR: A hotel owner was injured when the activists of a religious organization fired at him in Kandhkot on Tuesday to force him to close his hotel during a strike against the killing of Maulana Tariq.

A procession was taken out in the city with the protestors firing in the air to force the traders to close their shops.

When the procession reached the hotel of Arsala Sabzoi, he refused to close his hotel.

On this, he was fired at and injured.

The police arrested four persons on the charges of the firing but released them later.

Meanwhile, a complete strike was observed in Sukkur where the MI also took out a procession.

The participants burnt tyres at different places and resorted to aerial firing to force the shopkeepers to close their business.

A partial strike was also observed in Ghotki, Pano-Akil and other parts of Ghotki district.
