Ransacked checkpoint restored

LANDI KOTAL, (Khyber Agency), Oct 7: Authorities in the Khyber Agency on Tuesday re-established khasadar check-post at the Shalobar Chowk in the Bara area.

The checkpoint was ransacked by Shalobar tribesmen on Sunday to protest against the administration’s failure to compensate them for demolishing their shops and establishment of a check- post on their collective property in March this year.

The authorities on Tuesday morning sealed the Bara-Jamrud road and began reconstructing the demolished check-post. Tehsildar Bara supervised the re-construction amid tight security. A contingent of Frontier Constabulary was also called to assist the political administration.

The political administration has also banned entry of armed tribesmen into the Bara bazaar. Authorities had earlier on Monday arrested five Shalobar tribesmen allegedly involved in the attack on the khasadar check-post.
