ISLAMABAD, Oct 7: The directorate general Immigration and Passports would now issue passports, throughout the country, on the production of computerized national identity cards (NICs).

The existing practice of issuance of passports on the basis of old NICs has been stopped with immediate effect, according to a decision of the interior ministry.

The ministry has asked all ministries, divisions and departments to ensure that all applicants to be recommended for issuance of official or gratis passports, must have computerized national identity cards.—APP
