KARACHI: Rangers picked up several activists of the Sunni Tehreek (ST) in a raid on its headquarters in the old city area on Wednesday, according to sources and the party leaders.

A heavy contingent of the paramilitary force sealed roads and streets leading to the ST headquarters in Bheempura and searched the multi-storey building for over an hour.

Though there was no word from Rangers, the spokesman for the ST said more than 15 people had been rounded up.

Shahid Ghori, a leader of the party, said the ST leadership and workers extended cooperation to Rangers personnel during the raid because the party supported efforts for bringing sustainable peace to Karachi.

“If Rangers have any credible information about any party’s involvement in illegal activities, they should take action against it,” he told reporters.
