ISLAMABAD, Oct 5: There is little hope that the UN Security Council can help the Kashmiris after allowing killings and brutalities in Iraq, Afghanistan and Palestine.

This was stated by Prime Minister of Azad Jammu and Kashmir (AJK) Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan. He was speaking as the chief guest at the Kashmir Conference held at Kashmir House on Sunday.

The conference was jointly organized by International Muslim Women Union (IMWU), Parliamentary Peace Committee and Kashmir Women Forum. Dignitaries from Egypt, Morocco, Sudan and Malaysia also attended the conference.

Speaking to the gathering, Prime Minister Sardar Sikandar Hayat Khan blamed India for disrupting peace and said India would not allow development and progress in the region.

Prime Minister Sikandar Hayat Khan said the Kashmiris had never accepted tyranny and would continue to combat oppression.

“As far as the Kashmiris are concerned, we want nothing else, but freedom which is our birth right,” he added.

Speaking about the atrocities committed by the US and Israel on the Muslim world, he said the invasion of Muslim countries was part of a great design to capture Muslim states.

The AJK prime minister appreciated the challenge IMWU was up against and said such organizations had a pivotal role to play since they had representatives spread all over the world.

Guest speakers pointed out that women suffered the most in any conflict and all the women around the world must come to the front to show solidarity with the people of Jammu and Kashmir and also fight for their right to self-determination. This right, the speakers said, had been promised by the UN and the Indian government in UN resolutions.

The speakers said after 9/11 there were discussions and debates about war on terrorism, but in the heat of the arguments state terrorism of different kinds was ignored.

They contented that Kashmir dispute was the most challenging impediment in the path of peace in South Asia. India was trying to solve it through state violence and wanted to bring about demographic changes. The same was the case with Afghanistan, Iraq and Palestine, they said.

The Kashmir Conference declared that peace, justice and respect for the fundamental freedom were cornerstones of every civilized society. Everyone had the right to live with honour and dignity.

The conference highlighted that Kashmiri women and girls needed protection from the brutish abuse which had left them in a state of permanent shame and emotional trauma.

The fundamental rights of the innocent people of Kashmir had been crushed in violation of UN charter by the Indian government, the conference said.

The participants of Kashmir Conference urged the UN secretary-general to utilize UN mechanisms for ending massive state terrorism in the occupied Jammu and Kashmir.
