Benazir denies plan to meet PM

NEW YORK Oct 4: Chairperson of the Pakistan People’s Party Benazir Bhutto arrived in New York on Friday night and quashed reports suggesting that she would meet with Prime Minister Zafarullh Khan Jamali on Sunday.

Benazir Bhutto usually stays with her friend Ms Shama and Dr Bunyad Haider when she is in New York but that proved to be tricky as Dr Bunyad Haider, who is also a personal friend of Mr Jamali, has invited him to dinner at his place on Sunday night.

Since Benazir Bhutto’s stay in New York clashed with Mr Jamali’s dinner, she decided to stay with a local PPP leader, Dr Hasan in Long Island, dispelling speculations about a meeting between the two leaders.

The PPP chairperson told this correspondent on telephone: “I just want to let you know I am not meeting Mr Jamali and that is why I am not staying with my friend Shama.”

Meanwhile, Prime Minister Zafarullh Khan Jamali arrived in New York on Saturday afternoon at the conclusion of his three-day official visit to Washington where he met US President George Bush at the White House on Wednesday. Officials here said the prime minister would also have a full medical checkup during his two day stay here .
