KARACHI, Oct 4: Speakers at a protest demonstration, on Saturday, criticized the construction of Kalabagh dam and Thal canal and demanded of the government to stop work on these controversial projects immediately.

Speaking at the demonstration, organized by the Save Sindh Committee, the protesters said that when the Sindh Assembly through its unanimous resolution had cleared their opposition against the construction of both projects, an un-elected person had no legal and moral authority to announce the construction of these projects.

Terming the construction of these projects as stealing of water from the Sindh’s share, they said that if the water was taken away it would destroy the 5,000-year-old Indus Valley civilization.

They said that the intellectuals of Sindh were protesting against these projects on the streets, while Gen Musharraf was holding meetings with the government employees at the Governor’s House.

Nuruddin Sarki, Abdul Khaliq Junejo, Ali Mukhtar Rizvi, Abdul Majeed Kanjo, Amin Khattak, Anis Haroon, Prof S.M. Naseer and others also addressed the protesters.— Staff Reporter
