RAWALPINDI, Dec 23: The Indian government and its media have been consistently harping against Pakistan and thereby creating tension in the region, the Rawalpindi Tehsil Naib Nazim, Sajjad Khan, said here on Sunday.

In a statement, Mr Khan said by recalling its high commissioner from Pakistan, India had demonstrated its myopic view of the situation.

The Naib Nazim said if India tried to foist war, Pakistan’s armed forces would reply in kind. He praised the statesmanlike attitude of President Gen Pervez Musharraf in dealing with the situation created by India.

He said President Musharraf held lengthy discussions with his cabinet before going on his trip abroad to secure the support of foreign powers, and to inform friendly neighbours about the prevailing situation.

Mr Khan said the Pakistanis were united at this critical juncture, and the armed forces were prepared to defend the territorial unity of the country.

He also called on the Indian masses to restrain their government from acting rashly.
