DASKA: The joint investigation team (JIT) on Thursday began a probe into the killing of lawyers in Daska.

The team visited the spot where the lawyers were killed by police and gathered evidence related to the incident.

The petitioners in the case Rana Qayyum Shahzad, cousin of Rana Khalid Abbas, and Daska Bar Association Secretary General Awais Aslam Sandhu were also present.

Meanwhile, the lawyers continued their complete strike for the third consecutive day in Sialkot, Sambrial and Pasrur.

Lawyers from Lahore, Gujranwala, Sialkot, Islamabad, Gujjar Khan and other areas participated in a memorial reference for their two colleagues killed in police firing.

In the reference held at the Daska Bar Association, the lawyers paid a tribute to the slain lawyers, Rana Khalid Abbas (Daska Bar Association president) and Irfan Chohan, for their services in the movement for the restoration of supreme judiciary and dispensing justice to people.

The lawyers formed a special panel of senior lawyers for following the proceedings of the case of lawyers’ killing. They demanded speedy trial of the suspects, including the former SHO.

Later, they took out a procession, led by Lahore High Court Bar Association President Pir Masood Chishti, against the killings and marched peacefully on city roads, chanting slogans against police.

They gathered in front of the Daska City police station and held a rally.

They also offered prayers at the place where Rana Khalid Abbas and Irfan Chohan were killed and demanded establishment of a memorial monument there.

DPO: Rai Ejaz Ahmed assumed the charge as district police officer (DPO) here, replacing Dr Shahzad Asif who was made an OSD after the lawyers’ killings.

Daska DSP Waseem Dar also been closed to CPO Lahore after the Daska tragedy.
