OKARA: Two robbers were shot dead allegedly by the firing of their own accomplices during an encounter with police near Chak 2-D while two others managed to escape.

Talking to the media, District Police Officer (DPO) Faisal Rana claimed Hujra Shah Muqeem police received a complaint that highwaymen were looting commuters on the road leading to Chak 2-D. Police responded to the call and as they got closed to the robbers they started firing at police, resulting in an exchange of fire. When the firing from robbers stopped, police found the bodies of two robbers, later identified as Ihsan Bari, a resident of village Dhuliayana and Abdul Sattar of Qadirabad.

Police recovered a Kalashnikov and a 44-bore rifle, bullets and two mobile phones. The DPO claimed that both the dacoits fell victim to the bullets of their accomplices who managed to escape.

Ihsan Bari was involved in 13henious crime cases, including two murder cases, he said, adding that Abdul Sattar was wanted by police in three cases, including a murder case.

Meanwhile, the DPO claimed to have arrested a proclaimed offender with a Rs0.5m head money.

Gogera SHO Aziz Cheema received a tip-off that PO Rustam was present in the area of village Thatta Khaira along the Ravi. The police ca rried out a raid and arrested Rustam.
