KARACHI: Hashim Raza laid to rest

KARACHI, Oct 1: A former civil servant, Syed Hashim Raza, was laid to rest here Wednesday afternoon.

A large number of mourners participated in his Nimaz-i-janaza at Defence Phase-IV Imambargah after Zuhar prayers before his burial in the nearby graveyard. His Soyem will be held after Friday at the same Imambargah.

Karachi’s first administrator and a distinguished civil servant with profound interest in literature, died on Tuesday due to kidney failure.

Those who attended the funeral included his relatives, men of letters, government servants, ministers and diplomats.

He was lauded for his remarkable grasp of history and literature. Syed Hashim Raza had a very distinguished career as a civil servant who was also known for his role in the selection of the site for Quaid-i-Azam Mohammad Ali Jinnah’s Mazar.

Governor Dr Ishratul Ibad on Wednesday visited the residence of late Syed Hashim Raza to offer his condolences to the bereaved family, adds APP.

The Governor was accompanied by Chief Secretary Dr Mutawakkil Qazi and Principal Secretary Brig Akhtar Zamin.

Vice-Chancellor of the University of Karachi Prof Zafar Saeed Saify has paid rich tributes to the services of Syed Hashim Raza.

In a statement issued here on Wednesday, Dr Saify said that Syed Hashim Raza had served the country while holding many important positions.
