ISLAMBAD: Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif invited on Wednesday Pakistan People’s Party Co-Chairman Asif Ali Zardari to an all parties conference on the China-Pakistan Economic Corridor (CPEC) project and other issues. The conference will be held on May 13.

According to a PPP source, Mr Zardari has accepted the invitation and will attend the meeting along with some other leaders of his party.

The demand for an APC on the CPEC had been made by Mr Zardari at a recent meeting of political leaders at Zardari House. The meeting was attended also by Finance Minister Ishaq Dar and Information Minister Pervez Rashid who announced on the occasion that the prime minister would soon convene an APC on the issue.

A number of political parties, including the JUI-F and PTI, have opposed what they term changes made in the route of the corridor.

Most parties from Khyber Pakhtunkhwa and Balochistan have been protesting against an alleged government plan to exclude backward areas of the two provinces from the route to the benefit of Punjab.
