KHAR: Former MNA from Bajaur Agency and PPP Central Executive Committee member Syed Akhunzada Chattan on Saturday survived a roadside bomb blast here.

The administration officials said the blast took place at around 11:30am in Mandal area around 10 kilometers southwest of Khar.

They said the former lawmaker was on the way from Khar to Mandal along with a group of party workers to attend a public meeting when the bomb planted by the road exploded near his vehicle.

The officials said Chattan and his companions remained unhurt in the attack.

They, however, said the vehicle of Chattan’s brother, Bakhat Zada, a junior commissioned officer in Bajaur levies force, was damaged in the blast.

The officials said no one had claimed responsibility for the attack.

They said the bomb blast was a terrorist attack, whose target was the former MNA.

“We are satisfied with the security arrangements put in place for Akhunzada Chattan. Around 17 personnel of levies force have been with him for several years. We can’t do more for his security,” he said.

The bomb blast was the second terrorist attack in the agency during the last two days.

On Friday, a member of peace committee was killed in a roadside bomb explosion in Nawagai area.
