HYDERABAD: A district action committee for home-based workers Hyderabad has demanded of the provincial government to announce the policy for home-based women workers.

According to the committee, a draft of the policy prepared by non-governmental organisations, labour and women development department and others has been lying with the Sindh chief minister for approval for a year.

Addressing a press conference held at the local press club here on Thursday, committee coordinator Abdul Ghaffar Sherwani, joint coordinator Kausar Rajput and others pleaded for the policy.

They said that in Hyderabad, there were over 35,000 home-based workers belonging to cottage industry of glass bangles, garments, hosiery, embroidery and others items. If the policy was finalised and implemented, workers could be given facilities including pension, medical under social security, insurance in case of accident, workers welfare funds, housing, dowry for marriageable daughters, educational scholarship and others.
