ATHENS, Sept 29: Seven illegal immigrants thought to be from Pakistan were killed in northeastern Greece when they cut through barbed wire and stepped into a minefield just over the border from Turkey, an army spokesman said on Monday.
He said the seven men had crossed the Evros river along the frontier and ventured onto the minefield in the Manitsa region.
A border patrol heard a powerful explosion on 9:10am (0610 GMT), and a team of minesweepers were rushed to the spot where they found the dismembered corpses, he said. The remains were sent to the nearby hospital of Alexandroupolis.—AFP
