Police torture SHO, ASI suspended

JHANG, Sept 29: Qadirpur SHO and an ASI were suspended from service after they were found guilty of torturing and keeping a 10-year-old boy in illegal detention.

A landlord of Pabbaawala village had a case registered against labourer Pathana Khan and his son Ramzan for cutting grass from his rice crop. The police arrested Pathana Khan and his 10-year-old son, Tassawar Abbas, instead of his elder brother Ramzan.

Despite knowing Abbas was not nominated in the FIR, the police took him to the police station, kept him in the lock-up till next morning and subjected him to severe torture.

The boy was released on the interference of an advocate who produced him before human rights activists and journalists.

DPO Khadim Hussain Bhatti probed the matter himself when the story appeared in local newspapers.

After finding SHO Jalal Hundal and ASI Muhammad Khan guilty of charges, he handed down punishment to both of them.
