PESHAWAR, Sept 29: Legislators here on Monday expressed grave concern over what they termed as the irresponsible statement issued by secretary-general of Muttahida Majlis-e-Amal and Jamiat Ulema-i-Islam-F’s Senator Maulana Gul Naseeb Khan, saying he should behave like a responsible politician.
Soon after the start of the NWFP Assembly’s session, the first time a bit early, parliamentary leader of the Pakistan Muslim League-N Anwar Kamal Khan Marwat said the assembly knew how to honour women legislators inside or outside the assembly hall.
Expressing concern over the statement in which the MMA leader had purportedly said that if Ulema had not been present in the assembly, women legislators would have not bothered to cover themselves properly.
Anwar Kamal urged the MMA senator to be more responsible and sensible while referring to women legislators.
An opposition MPA, Nighat Orakzai, also criticized the MMA leader’s statement, saying that he (the MMA senator) did not even know the true meaning of purdah.—PPI
