RAWALPINDI, Sept 28: Punjab Chief Minister Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi on Sunday paid surprise visits to the police stations of various districts while coming to Rawalpindi from Lahore.

The chief minister also ordered suspension of a number of officers, including SP Jhelum Aftab Ijaz and DSP Rawalpindi Rana Shahid, besides disciplinary action against them for negligence.

Mr Elahi first visited the police station of Muridke in district Sheikhupura where the SHO was found absent, official sources said.

He was informed that the SHO had also not come to the police station on Saturday. The police officials present in the office were found in plane clothes. The chief minister ordered suspension of the entire staff, including the SHO, and initiation of disciplinary action against them.

Later, he visited the model police station, Sohawa, in district Jhelum, where on checking of inspection register it was revealed that the superintendent of police (SP) concerned had not visited the police station for the last six months.

The SP had been posted here six months ago during which he never visited the police station, the official sources said. The chief minister also observed that no police officer was in uniform. He issued orders for immediate suspension of the SP.

During the inspection of Gujar Khan police station, the chief minister found the inspection register missing.
