Bridegroom booked

RAWALPINDI: Pirwadhai police registered a case against a bridegroom for violating ban on more than one dish at the wedding function on Tuesday.

However, Malik Sajid, the bridegroom, escaped from the wedding hall when a police team arrived there.

“We have launched a hunt for the bridegroom as he is the nominated accused in the FIR,” ASI Rafaqat Ali, who is leading the investigation into the matter, told Dawn.

Police took photographs of the extra dishes along with some food samples to prove the case against the bridegroom.

The official said the police found six food items being served in the function against just one allowed under the law. Chief Minister Shahbaz Sharif has already directed the divisional police chiefs and the district administration across the province to strictly implement the ban in wedding functions.

Total stupidity to impose restrictions on what people can eat. Not only a waist of resources, look nobody is doing anything, if this is not a police state, what is. Police should have better things to do. What is the harm if people get to eat a variety of dishes, it is a celebration. They will eat one or two dishes at home, so there is no difference in total consumption. Government should have no say in such matters. Weddings and shops provide employment, that is how economy grows, there is more for everyone. Basic stuff, get it.

The police immediately confiscated the additional food items and took them to the police station to be used for "evidence". Don't they have something better to do?

An insensible law. Food is part of culture and everyone must have right to maintain it. In Udupi (South India), a typical marriage will have over 40 dishes and served in such a manner that no one leaves food in plate. Agree that the wastage should be curbed. This should happen via education not via law. Govt can insist on providing account of each rupee spend on weddings and enforce zero wastage.

I dont see how one dish would benefit Pakistan. If there are 300 guests then one would serve biryani for 300 guests and 300 tikkas. Whereas on one dish law, 300 guests would require biryani with double the portions. So how are we really saving Pakistan from damnation.

So, Pakistan government limits how much food a bridegroom can offer his guests? Are Pakistanis in this dire state that ONLY ONE dish be served at a wedding? Was that just goat or lamb pullau or Chicken Tikka? stop micro-managing people's lives. I say TWO dishes !

Sad but true that this law only applies to the ones on which police can make raids. I personally have attended wedding functions where many dishes were served and Police was invited to provide safety.
