KARACHI: The Sindh government and Daewoo Pakistan Express Bus Service Ltd launched the first phase of Shaheed Benazir Bhutto Intercity Bus Service at a ceremony held at Chief Minister House on Tuesday.

In the first phase 50 buses would be run on the route connecting Karachi with Hyderabad, Mirpurkhas, Sukkur, Benazirabad and Larkana under the public-private partnership project.

Chief Minister Syed Qaim Ali Shah, speaking on the occasion, said his government had fulfilled another commitment to the people of Sindh of providing them comfortable and affordable transport as per the vision of Benazir Bhutto.

He said the first phase of the project was launched with its joint investment of Rs2 billion contributed by both partners. He said the next phase of the project would be launched soon to provide the same transport facilities to the people of Karachi. He said the Sindh government had asked the Daewoo company to invest in intra-city routes of Karachi, to which they had agreed and hopefully the next phase would be Intra-city Bus Service for Karachi.
