UNITED NATIONS, Sept 27: Kashmiris living in New York organized a peace rally on a yatch which went right past the UN headquarters, overlooking the East River, as Indian Prime Minister Vajpayee spoke to the world body.

The large yatch carried banners which read: “India: Honour UN Pledges in Kashmir”; “Freedom for All: Freedom for Kashmir”; “Kashmir Needs United Nations Attention”; “Stop State Terrorism in Kashmir”, etc.

Earlier, speaking at a rally opposite the United Nations, Ghulam Nabi Fai, executive director of the Kashmir American Council, said time had come for the United Nations to become serious and set the stage for the settlement of the Kashmir issue.

Only a just solution of the Kashmir issue in accordance with the wishes and aspiration of the people of Kashmir will guarantee peace and security in South Asia, he said.
