GILGIT: Gilgit-Baltistan Governor Chaudhry Mohammad Barjees Tahir has directed the heads of departments of the regional government to take disciplinary action against the staff involved in political activities.

According to an official source, the GB governor sent letters to the heads of GB government departments and organisations recently, informing them that he had received complaints against GB government employees for their involvement in political activities. The source said in the letters the governor had identified 48 government officials from grade 14 to 18 who were blamed for involvement in political activities. Mr Tahir directed the department heads to take cognisance of the matter and take legal action against the erring employees.

NEW CHIEF SECRETARY: The federal government on Tuesday appointed joint secretary, Kashmir Council, Syed Tahir Hussain, as new chief secretary of Gilgit-Baltistan. According to an official source, Tahir Hussain would replace Sikandar Sultan Raja.

Meanwhile, public relations officer of the minister for Kashmir Affairs and Gilgit-Baltistan, Javed Shahzad Malik, has been appointed media officer in the Benazir Income Support Programme, in addition to his previous assignment.
