GUJRANWALA, Sept 26: A junior judge cannot refer a case to a senior judge directly and the Lahore High Court is a proper institution for referring cases to any court.
This observation was made by the Anti-Terrorism Court No 1, Gujranwala judge, Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah, when ATC No 2 judge Mirza Rafiuz Zaman referred the murder case of former provincial minister Chaudhry Farooq Ahmad to his court for hearing on Friday.
Returning the case to the ATC No 2, the ATC No 1 judge observed that he would hear the case which would be referred to him by the Lahore High Court.
ROAD BLOCKED: Scores of pick-up and motorcycle rickshaw owners on Friday threw traffic out of gear on Sialkot Road near Farid Town for manhandling their colleagues by a union council Nazim and his brothers on their refusal to pay protection money.
The protesters claimed that the regional transport authority (RTA) secretary and traffic police allowed them plying their vehicles on Sialkot Road from Lohianwala Bypass intersection to Farid Town Bypass intersection. But, Lohianwala UC Nazim Javed Chaudhry and his brothers Rashid, Nasir and others were receiving protection money for the parking of their vehicles along the road.
They alleged the Nazim and his brothers and their men manhandled the vehicle crews when they refused to pay them the protection money.
They said that they were already facing problems in paying loan of their vehicles while the extortionists had added to their difficulties.
They threatened to take out demonstration against the administration and police if action was not taken against the extortionists.
However, UC Nazim Javed Chaudhry denied the allegations.
