TAXILA: The local chapter of the Pakistan Academy of Family Physicians (PAFP) on Monday vowed to work for the resolution of issues faced by doctors, including security threats, exorbitant taxation and discriminatory rules promulgated by the Pakistan Medical and Dental Council (PMDC).

Addressing a meeting of the PAFP’s local chapter through a video link, central president PAFP Dr Tariq Mahmood Mian said all issues being faced by health practitioners in the rural areas would be resolved. He said due to the prevailing situation, doctors were facing security threats, especially in Karachi and Peshawar, besides the unjustified taxation.

The meeting was presided over by PAFP local chapter patron-in-chief Dr Shahid Nawaz while president of the PAFP Taxila, Dr Syed Asad Ali, and general secretary Dr Ellahi Bux were also present.

Speaking on the occasion, Dr Syed Asad Ali, the president of the local chapter, said strict laws were in place for doctors in both the public and private sectors but millions of quacks were playing havoc with the health of the people and there was no law to take action against them.

Patron-in-chief PAFP Dr Shahid Nawaz said the organisation would continue working for the resolution of the problems being faced by doctors in Taxila and Wah Cantonment.
