Six records set on first day

LAHORE, Sept 25: Lahore with 34 points were leading on the first day of the 62nd Punjab Inter-district weightlifting championship at the Punjab University Old Campus ground on Thursday.

Six new records were also established on the first day.

Abdul Ghafoor (56kgs) set a new record by lifting a total weight of 90.5kgs improving the previous record of 90kgs held by Usman Akbar of Faisalabad.

In 62kgs class, Aamir Ali (Faisalabad) lifted a weight of 103 to improve the record of Talib Hussain of 102.5kgs.

Aasim Arif (Lahore) excelled in 110kgs class by lifting 123 kgs weight to set up a new record.

Muhammad Kashif (Gujranwala) improved three new records in 77kgs weight category. He lifted a total weight of 247.5kgs to improve the previous record.

He also set two new records in the jerk and clean by lifting 138kgs and 110kgs which made his total of 247.5.

First day results:

56kgs: Abdul Ghafoor (Lahore), Sohaib (Gujranwala), Muhammad Sajid (Faialabad).

62kgs: Aamir Ali (Faisalabad), Ilyas Ghafoor (Faisalabad), Muhammad Usman (Gujranwala).

69kgs: Aasim Arif (Lahore), Shoaib (Lahore), Asif Yaqoob (Faisalabad).

77kgs: Muhammad Kashif (Gujranwala), Farooq Ishaq (Lahore), Qaiser Butt (Gujrat).
