ISLAMABAD: Pakistan Tehreek-i-Insaf (PTI) has come out in support of the police officials who reportedly refused to follow the orders of the government during the march and sit-ins of PTI held in August last year.

Central information Secretary PTI Dr Shireen Mazari, through a statement issued on Friday, asked the government to allow the police force in Islamabad and Punjab to function according to the law.

“The intent to penalise former Islamabad SSP (Operations) Mohammad Ali Nekokara because he refused to follow unlawful directions of the federal government is a reflection of the monarchic state of mind of the Sharifs. They forget that the police owes loyalty to the state not to a particular individual and that Pakistan is not the personal fiefdom of any one family,” Ms Mazari said.

She pointed out that PTI Chief Imran Khan was continuously pointing out that how people had lost faith in the police because of politicisation and questionable methods of induction.

In Khyber Pakhtunkhwa the police stand totally depoliticized and inductions are done through the NTS and not on political basis, she added.

She called on the government to respect rule of law. She also regretted the Foreign Secretary reportedly having come under pressure in agreeing to SSP Nekokara’s dismissal. Such a dismissal will be a great travesty of justice, she said.

There is no ambiguity about whether very high inflation devastates society; but economists are not entirely sure how much influence high interest rates hold in controlling inflation.
