Main suspect in Perween Rahman murder arrested from Mansehra: police

PESHAWAR: The prime suspect in the murder of Orangi Pilot Project Director Perween Rahman was arrested Thursday during a joint operation conducted by Karachi and Mansehra police in Mansehra.

The suspect Ahmed Khan alias Pappu Kashmiri was arrested in Mansehra, police said.

Police further said that the suspect will be presented before a district and sessions court in Mansehra shortly.

Perween Rehman, a media-shy social worker who devoted her life to the development of the impoverished neighbourhoods across the country, was gunned down near her office in Karachi's Orangi Town on March 13, 2013.

The very next day, police killed a Taliban operative named Qari Bilal in an encounter and claimed he was the murderer, resulting in a closure of the case.

Wow.. I am skeptical given KHI police claim that Ms. Rehman's murderers have already been killed in an 'encounter' but wonderful news if its true.

Joint operation between Karachi and Mansehra police. Which means cooperation between two provinces. One run by the PPP and the other PTI/JI. That is a good sign. Well done both governments. As a citizen we want to see more of this for our protection.

I hope justice is served. Parveen Rehman was such a fine lady, working to empower poor and killed by land grabbers and water thieves. Currently people living in 60sqyd plot is getting water tanker at rate b/w 1500-2500 and that too of salty water in Orangi.

The evil that Taliban represents notwithstanding, many criminal and sectarian outfits have used Taliban's name for their own actions in an attempt to get away with their crimes. 'a judicial inquiry had revealed that police officers had manipulated the investigation'. Such as the state of Sindh police. Law enforcement agencies too, when faced with complex investigations and political murders, put all blame on Taliban to quickly close criminal cases as illustrated by the murder of this noble woman.

Last year on April 15, the Supreme Court of Pakistan had ordered authorities to conduct a fresh probe into Rehman's murder after a judicial inquiry had revealed that police officers had manipulated the investigation. My question is.... will these police officers also will be arrested for and why manipulated a murder investigation ?
