LARKANA, Sept 24: Three more cases of HIV-infected persons, including a woman, have come to light here, raising the figure of such cases to 48 in the Larkana district alone.

The latest cases have been detected by the authorities at the AIDS Surveillance Centre, Larkana chapter.

The woman among the three living with the killer virus hails from Dokri taluka of Larkana. She had appeared for a volunteer test in fear that the disease might be transferred to her from her husband who had recently been deported from a Gulf state.

The remaining two cases are those of heroine addicts. They belong to Shahdadkot town, sources told this correspondent here on Wednesday.

The doctors at centre have sent the blood samples of the three carriers to Karachi for verification.

At a recently-held workshop in Islamabad, it was conveyed to the participants that a rehabilitation centre for AIDS patients would be established in Larkana in view of emerging cases, the sources said.

Neither the EDO (health) nor the MS of CMCH have received any intimation in this behalf yet.

job-seekers: The Chandka Medical College (CMC) hospital has received some 18,000 applications for 84 posts of grade 1 to 6 advertised recently by Sindh’s health department.

Sources in the hospital said that a total of 1,1784 applications had been received from job-seekers who came in person. Another 6,000 applications were received by post.

A heavy rush was seen up to the last date of submission of applications — Sept 15.

The authorities had to call out arm-

ed guards to deal with the young unemployed.

The 84 posts advertised include ward servants, OT technicians, chowkidars, telephone operators, and electricians. People with MA degrees have also applied.
