Priority for road projects urged

PESHAWAR, Sept 24: NWFP Governor Syed Iftikhar Hussain Shah has directed the authorities to prioritize road projects under the Malakand Rural Development Programme with a view to completing public welfare-oriented schemes on time.

Addressing a briefing here on Wednesday, the governor said the documentation process should be completed early for starting construction of roads without delay.

He stressed that the Khwazakhela-Kalam road should be given priority keeping in view its importance from the tourism point of view. However, he said, the Khwazakhela-Besham road must not get sidelined and should be undertaken in the first phase of the project.

The briefing was informed that the Rs2.7 billion project covered roads, irrigation schemes, drinking water supply schemes, micro-hydro power stations and schemes pertaining to social uplift of women

It was informed that 150km-long inter-district roads would be rehabilitated, including Dargai-Landakay, Khwazakhela-Alpuri, Alpuri-Besham and Fatehpur-Kalam road.—Bureau
