PESHAWAR, Sept 24: Members of the city district council walked out of the council’s session here on Wednesday protesting against what they called “indifferent attitude” of National Database Registration Authority (Nadra) and police officials towards them.
Angry members of the council accused Nadra’s officials of registering an FIR against a union council Nazim Malik Noushad for attesting documents of a person, which officials believed was not a Pakistani.
They threatened to continue their protest unless city district Nazim Azam Afridi registered a counter FIR against Nadra officials.
The session, presided over by Dr Iqbal Khalil, started here at the city district council hall on Wednesday.
When the session commenced, UC Nazim Malik Noushad complained that Nadra regional office had registered an FIR against him on charges of attesting fake documents.
He insisted that he had found documents of the person authentic making him eligible to obtain the national identity card.
He said Nadra officials registered an FIR against him at a local police station without going through the scrutiny process. He stressed the said person was a Pakistani national and his forefathers belonged to the country.
He demanded that the council should look into the matter and the district government should take legal action against Nadra officials.
Another district council member Saib Singh complained about the negative attitude of the Station House Officer of Shah Qabool police station. He accused the police officer of misbehaving with him.
Later city district Nazim Azam Afridi persuaded angry members to end their protest.
Speaking on the occasion Mr Afridi said that he would take up the matter with Nadra regional chief while an inquiry would be conducted against the police official who mistreated a council member.
