KARACHI, Sept 23: Four more foreign students were picked up from Jamia Abu Bakr in Gulshan-i-Iqbal in a late night raid on Monday by the intelligence agencies.

“All four were Indonesians studying in the seminary. Some intelligence officials came to the seminary late Monday night and asked for their custody,” officials of Jamia Abu Bakr told Dawn on Tuesday.

They said four students, Furqan Abdullah, Elhaam Sobandi, Daud and Anwar Siddique, were handed over to the intelligence agencies. The officials also collected the passports of the suspects from the management of the seminary and took them to an undisclosed location.

Earlier, 17 students — two Indonesians and others Malaysians — had been picked up in two different seminaries in the metropolis a couple of days back. They all are likely to be deported to their home countries.

The government officials said they had been involved in the activities against the interest of Pakistan.

Well-placed sources said three Ugandan students had been deported to their home country in the recent past for having their suspected links with those working against the interests of the country.

They were extensively grilled and deported back to their home country.
