4 TTP militants killed in Karachi ‘encounter’

KARACHI: The city chief of the banned Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan (TTP) was among four suspected militants shot dead in an alleged encounter with police and Rangers here on Monday.

The encounter took place after contingents of police and Rangers cordoned off an alleged hideout of the militants in Surjani Town’s Sector 10.

West Karachi Senior Superintendent of Police Azfar Mahesar said: “We had received secret information that the militants were planning to attack five important places and persons, including blowing up the Manghopir police station.”

Police claimed to have seized a suicide jacket, two grenades and four pistols from the place. Mr Mahesar said that a constable, Usman, was injured in the clash.A Rangers spokesman said two personnel of the force were also injured.

According to officials, Tariq Khan alias Chota Abid, said to be chief of the Tehreek-i-Taliban Pakistan’s Khan Sajna group in Karachi, was killed along with his deputy Rehmanuddin alias Lala, Amjad Khan and Sardar Rab Khan.
