GUJRAT: Scores of students of the Government College for Women, Marghzar Colony, a constituent college of the University of Gujrat, staged a protest demonstration against the college decision of barring them from appearing in the intermediate and secondary board examinations in May.

The students were not issued the admission forms for the board exams for securing low marks in college exams. Carrying placards, they started protest procession from the college campus on Bhimber Road and gathered at Katchery Chowk.

As a result of the demonstration, traffic on the Jalalpur Jattan Road remained out of gear for more than two hours.

District Coordination Officer Liaqat Ali Chatha and District Police Officer Rai Ijaz Ahmed intervened and talked to UoG Vice-Chancellor Dr Ziaul Qayyum to resolve the matter.

The VC directed the college principal to let the protesting students appear in the board exams.

Earlier, the students of some other constituent colleges of the UoG had also lodged protest against when their admission forms were not sent for the intermediate exams as the administration of these colleges wanted to show a better result by allowing only the good students to appear in the board exams in violation of the government policy.

According to the government policy, only those students should be barred from taking the board exams who had a very low attendance ratio of college classes.
