MIRPURKHAS: High-velocity winds hit Mirpurkhas and its surrounding areas on Thursday uprooting many trees and bringing down hoardings.

The storm was followed by a heavy but brief downpour inundating most roads and streets in the city.

It rained in the afternoon for about 20 minutes but the changing weather conditions crippled life for the rest of the day, sending people at workplaces back home and rendering busy commercial areas deserted.

Rainwater accumulated on many thoroughfares causing public and private vehicles to go off the roads.

It could not be flushed out till late in the evening as the city’s drainage and pumping system stopped functioning and municipal workers did not attend to their duties.

Complaints of power failures in many localities also remained unattended till late in the evening.
