TAXILA: The roof of another house collapsed killing a woman and injuring her husband and son in Christian Colony in Cantonment area on Wednesday morning.

According to police sources, the house was damaged in the two-day rain spell which lasted until Tuesday.

The damaged roof caved in, leaving the family trapped under the rubble. People living nearby rushed to rescue the family, removed the rubble themselves and took three injured to the hospital.

Tanveer Bibi succumbed to her injuries while her husband and son are still at the hospital. Her other children escaped the accident with bruises.

This latest incident has taken the death toll in Taxila and Wah, from the last rain spell to nine people, most of whom are women and children.

Meanwhile, Punjab Chief Minister Muhammad Shahbaz Sharif has announced financial assistance of Rs500,000 each for families who have lost their loved ones in these incidents. He has also announced Rs75,000 each for the treatment of those injured.

Meanwhile, a man was killed when a large rock hit him at a stone-crushing plant in Margalla Hills.

Yasir Mehmood told police his brother Arshad Mehmood was working at a stone-crushing plant.

Another worker, in a nearby plant fired some explosives without informing others. A large boulder rolled down and killed Mehmood.
