Rifat grabs first hat trick

QUETTA, Sept 22: Quetta colours skipper Rifat Mehdi grabbed the first hat trick of the 20th National Women’s hockey championship when hosts outclassed Sukkur 3-0 on Monday.

Quetta despite dominating the proceedings had to wait 15 minutes before Rifat put her side in front with a field goal and the scoreline remained 1-0 at the end of the first half.

The hosts doubled the lead in the 50th minute with Rifat once again on target completing the hat trick with her third goal with ten minutes left for the final whistle.

Sukkur fought hard for but could not break the solid Quetta defence.

Earlier, the President Pakistan Hockey Federation, General Aziz Ahmed who inaugurated the tournament announced that Quetta would get another Astroturf soon while existing Astroturf in the General Musa Hockey Ground would be replaced.

He urged upon the young women players to improve their skill and prove that they are no less then the men’s team.

He said that it was the right time to work hard for taking place in the world hockey.

The Provincial President of Balochistan Women’s Hockey Association, Surrya Allahdin presented the welcome address while Shahida Jamil President Pakistan Women’s Hockey Federation was also present on the occasion.
