PM briefed on N-power projects

ISLAMABAD: Nuclear programme officials briefed the prime minister on Tuesday on planned power projects.

“Prime Minister Nawaz Sharif was given a briefing on Pakistan’s nuclear power programme by the Pakistan Atomic Energy Commission at the PM House,” the Prime Minister’s Office said, adding that 1100MW K2 and K3 nuclear power projects being constructed in Karachi and other plans were discussed.

The briefing was attended by Defence Minister Khawaja Mohammad Asif, Finance Minister Ishaq Dar, Chairman Joint Chiefs of Staff Committee Gen Rashad Mahmood and director general of the Strategic Plans Division.

The prime minister said that availability of funds for the projects would be ensured.

Mr Sharif, who proceeds on a three-day visit to Riyadh on Wednesday for an urgent meeting with King Salman Bin Abdul Aziz Al Saud, held a separate meeting with Gen Rashad Mahmood.

“Professional matters related to the armed forces and the overall national security situation came under discussion during the meeting,” the PM Office said.
