KARACHI, Sept 22: Pakistani students have performed exceptionally well in the O and A level Cambridge examinations.

This was stated by the deputy head of the mission at the British Deputy High Commission in Karachi, Roger Sykes, on Monday evening.

He was speaking as chief guest at the award ceremony for position holders in 2002, O and A level examinations, held at the premises of the British Deputy High Commission.

Roger Sykes pointed out that in June, 2002 O level examinations, Pakistani students were top in the world in 13 subjects.

“This is amazing, the same in the previous year. However, there are only 14 global subjects taken in Pakistan. So this means that Pakistani students are top in the world in 13 out of 14 subjects. But that is not all. Of the top five positions in each of these 14 subjects, Pakistan students took 64 of the 70 top positions,” he further remarked.

Mr Sykes pointed out that this year the British Council conducted its second largest examination operation in the country, adding that Pakistan would soon become its biggest operation.

Mr Sykes congratulated the high achievers as well as their parents for their remarkable performances. Later, he distributed awards among the high achievers in these examinations.

Dr Fred Burke, Director South Asia, University of Cambridge, Local Examination Syndicate, in his brief remarks also praised the Pakistani students for their remarkable achievements in the examinations.

In his remarks, the director of the British Council, Karachi, Charlie Walker, commended the outstanding performance of the Pakistani students.—APP
