KARACHI: Afghanistan’s disabled cricket team will undertake a week-long tour of Pakistan from Feb 21 for a series of T20 and one-day matches against their Pakistani counterparts.

Amiruddin Ansari, honorary secretary of the Pakistan Disabled Cricket Association (PDCA), said on Tuesday it will be a landmark visit by Afghanistan during which the touring side will play two 40-over one-dayers and three T20s here at the National Stadium.

The PDCA official said it would be the first-ever international series between physically handicapped cricketers of the two brotherly countries. It may be recalled that two disabled cricket series between Pakistan and England were staged at the ICC Academy in Dubai in 2012 and 2014 with Pakistan winning both the series.

“The ECB Disability Cricket Manager, Ian Martin, has done a lot of work on disabled cricket and has also tried to gather teams from Australia, New Zealand, Bangladesh and India,” Amiruddin said. “We hope the upcoming series will not only promote disabled cricket further but also give the world that Pakistan is a safe place to play international cricket.”
