HYDERABAD: Three corners were inaugurated in the museum of Sindhology in the memory of Sindhi poet Ustad Bukhari, Sufi Singer Suhrab Faqir and novelist Tariq Alam Abro during a Sindhi Mushaira at the Institute of Sindhology in the University of Sindh (SU).

Adal Soomro and short story writer Shaukat Hussain Shoro inaugurated the corners. The families Ustad Bukhari, Suhrab Faqir and Tariq Alam Abro were present on the occasion.

The Mushaira provided an entertaining evening to teachers and students. It was organised by the institute at its lawn here on Sunday.

The programme attracted a large number of poetry lovers. Sindhology In-charge Director Prof Saeed Mangi said he was trying to provide some entertainment to teachers and students who remained busy in the study throughout the year.

He said the Mushaira was organised with a view to promoting cultural activities on the campus. It was attended by all noted poets of the province. The event was presided over by poet Inayat Baloch and compered by poet Amar Iqbal.

Those who recited their poems included Adal Soomro, Amar Iqbal, Ahmed Solangi, Ishaque Samejo, Gulbadan Javed, Samina Memon, Bedal Masroor, Izhar Soomro, Zaib Sindhi and others. Those who attended were Dr Ishaque Ansari, Dr Mehmood Mughal, Dr Aslam Parvaiz Memon, Dr Naimat Shah and Amar Sindhu. Meanwhile, one minute silence was observed for the people killed in Shikarpur’s attack. The musical programme was postponed owing to the tragic incident.

The Sindh University (SU) on Sunday also signed a memorandum of understanding (MoU) with International Islamic University (IIU) Islamabad to promote research and higher education, particularly in the field of education, law, science and technology.

The MoU was inked by Pro Vice-Chancellor (PVC) of SU Laar campus Badin Prof Dr Muhammad Siddique on behalf of Vice-Chancellor Prof Dr Abida Taherani and IIU president Dr Ahmed Yousif, according to a press release on Sunday. Under the pact, both the sides will explore research opportunities and industry-focused training for their students.
