Militants blow up gas pipeline in Balochistan

QUETTA: Militants on Sunday blew up a 24-inch gas pipeline in Balochistan's resources-rich Dera Bugti district.
Militants had planted improvised explosive device (IED) close to gas pipeline in Landola area of the district, Levies sources told Dawn, adding that the explosives went off with a big bang.
Gas supply to adjoining villages was disrupted due to damage caused by the powerful blast that rocked the entire area, Levies said.

Levies and Frontier Corps personnel were quick at the scene and fire fighters were also called to extinguish roaring flames of fire.
However, it was learnt that the technical staff of the gas company was facing problems in terms of immediate repair of the destroyed portion owing to uncertain law and order situation in the area.
There has been no immediate claim of responsibility for the attack.

The incident has come days after militants blew up two 220kv transmission lines in Balochistan's Notal area, which had caused suspension of power supply to 29 districts of the province.
Sabotage of gas pipelines is a characteristic tactic of tribal militants which is frequently witnessed in Balochistan. However, the province also suffers from attacks carried out by Taliban militants.

The amount of indian agents and indian trained militants entering via Afghanistan is shambolic. The border needsnto be walled up. Those claiming their brotherhood will divided is a load of bull crap. Secure entry zones can be createdmfor this purpose. If stonesncome into your house, the least you can do is raise your walls to prevent the flow.

It doesn't need rocket science to figure out why those militants are blowing up those pipelines. Why not give a fair share of resources to Baloch? This is what happens when you don't give due share to deserving. Its total mismanagement I would say. Stop exploiting them. Do some development for Baluchistan also not only Punjab.

@Oz Better you treat them equally and give due share of the resources taking from Baluchistan then the rebellion automatically will be subsided. Kindly find out the real cause of problems and why Baluchistan is vulnerable for Indian involvement why Punjab is not.

Such terrorists are destabilizing Pakistan to prevent its progrees and prosperity. Chances are that government knows which enemy country is supporting these terrorists. Once terrorists are referred to military courts and lengthy jail terms or hanging is awarded to these terrorists, other terrorists would get the message. You do the crime, you do the time (even better, do crime and get hanged). Urgent action please.

Pakistan needs to man these pipelines and if that is not feasible, install CCTV cameras around troublesome / sensitive areas, so that these terrorists are caught and presented to the military courts for speedy trials. This is only if terrorists were responsible though, if its due poor maintenance then the Gas company should be held responsible.

The writing on the wall for politician is to make insurgency in Balochistan a priority in national policy. If government continues to turn blind eye to the grievances of baloch nationalist,it's only matter of time when Quetta would become next Dhaka for Pakistan.

It appears our agencies are incapable of guarding these pipelines. We should consider other means like burying them underground, round the clock surveillance by PAF or give the responsibility to the Army.

If they were able to dig that much deep and for that long distance, Pakistan itself has lot of Petroleum resources which they can dig. But it will be very costly. So they are not touching them.

@Oz yes you are right, there has to be a reason for having numerous Indian embassies in Afghanistan. And A senior Indian minister declared Talibaan as mercenaries who would kill for anyone who paid them the highest amount; the minister even specified the amount. Unfortunately any atrocity in Pakistan is going to be linked to Indian hand unless otherwise proven.

@Valiya .........Balochistan is treated equally,only a few led by a wadera who is supported by a back stabbing enemy since partition is unhappy because he is sick in his mind and cannot see prosperity in his own people.Alas,if only Kashmiris were also treated equally!
