PESHAWAR: A constable of the counterterrorism department was among two persons shot dead by motorcyclists in separate incidents here on Monday.

Said Gul, 34, head constable in CTD, was targeted by unknown motorcyclists outside his residence at Gulshan Abad while he was going to his office along with his son, Umair, 9, who was injured in the attack.

Both of them were shifted to Lady Reading Hospital where doctors pronounced the cop as dead, while his son was under treatment. A case was registered against unidentified terrorists at Bala Manri police station.

The victim’s father told police that his family had no enmity with anyone.

In another incident, unknown gunmen shot dead a man identified as Mohammad Ibrahim while he was going in a car near Shahi Bala in limits of Mathra police station. A case against unknown attackers was registered on the complaint of the victim’s uncle, Ismail.

Meanwhile, a police spokesman said that during the ongoing search and strike operation 179 outlaws, including Afghan nationals, had been arrested in different areas of the provincial metropolis.

Of the arrested persons, he said, 53 were tenants who had failed to comply with the government policy to provide basic information to local police.

The Afghan nationals were also living without any valid documents and would be deported after producing them to the relevant court, said the spokesman, adding that police also recovered 22 pistols, two repeaters, a Kalashnikov from their possession.
