Wahab excels for Lahore

LAHORE, Sept 17: A six-wicket burst by left-arm-medium-pacer Wahab Riaz and later good batting display of Sohail Ahmad and Salman Akbar helped Lahore take a 69-run lead with five first innings wicket intact against Sialkot on opening day of the Inter-regional Under-19 cricket tournament final at the Gaddafi Stadium on Wednesday.

Wahab sent down 16.3 overs to claim six for 26 as Sialkot  were skittled out for 73 in 39.3 overs, after being put to bat first by Lahore’s skipper Zulqarnian Haider. At stumps, Lahore had mustered a total of 142 for five.

Their opener Sohail (41, six fours) and Salman (38, five  fours) batted well. Skipper  Zulqarnain (10) with Jamshed Ahmad, yet to open his account, will resume Lahore’s innings on Thursday.

Earlier,  medium-pacer  Muhammad Shahzad ably  supported  Wahab with  a  figure  3-28 to bundle out Sialkot.
