HYDERABAD, Sept 17: The SPSF-SB activists held a demonstration outside the press club here on Wednesday to protest against the Kalabagh dam, greater Thal canal and delay in the proceeding of Murtaza Bhutto murder case.

Speaking on the occasion, Shiraz Shakrani and other leaders of the Sindh People’s Students Federation (Shaheed Bhutto) opposed the construction of the water projects and pledged to continue struggle against the anti-Sindh projects.

They said that seven years had passed since the murder of Mir Murtaza and his companions but justice had not been restored.

JSMM: Meanwhile, a large number of the Jeay Sindh Mutahidda Mahaz activists observed a token hunger strike in Jamshoro on Wednesday against the Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal.

Party senior vice-chairman Samiullah Kalhoro and general secretary Asghar Shah led the hunger strike.

Speaking on the occasion, they said that despite opposition from the political and religious parties and social welfare and literary organizations in Sindh, Punjab was going ahead with the construction of the canal.

They vowed to resist the construction of the anti-Sindh projects.

STPP: Sindh Taraqqi Pasand Party chairman Dr Qadir Magsi has criticized President Gen Pervez Musharraf for his statement that the people of Sindh are inefficient.

He regretted that Prime Minister Mir Zafarullah Khan Jamali and Pakistan Muslim League-Q chief Chaudhry Shujaat Hussain had no respect for resolutions passed by the Sindh Assembly against Kalabagh dam and greater Thal canal projects.

Dr Magsi was speaking at the party’s central committee meeting held at the Taraqqi Pasand House here on Tuesday.

He said the rulers were going ahead with construction of the Thal canal and the Kalabagh dam despite the projects were rejected by the people of three provinces.

The STPP chief said this attitude of the rulers had created a sense of deprivation among the people of the smaller provinces which was reflected at the recent conference held in Peshawar.

He demanded that the Kalabagh dam and the Thal canal should be shelved as the majority was against the projects.
