HYDERABAD: Lahore Motorway Police DIG Bashir Memon’s paternal cousin Asif Memon, who was kidnapped on Oct 23, 2014 in Hyderabad, safely returned home here on Tuesday after he was freed in Sanghar district by his captors.

His release was the result of immense pressure build up on his kidnappers by police, DSP Aslam Langah of the Crime Investigation Agency (CIA) told the media.

The kidnappers set Asif Memon free in an area within Sanghar district from where he travelled back home, DSP Langah said, adding that 15 to 20 suspects had been picked up for interrogation since his disappearance.

The DSP also linked the recent Mirpurkhas encounter, in which five policemen and four suspected criminals were killed, to the kidnapping. They were directly connected with the episode, he added.

DIG Memon told the media that the release of his cousin was the result of the detention of many key suspects by the Hyderabad police.
