SUKKUR, Sept 15: Hundreds of people on Monday held a demonstration against the Ghotki police for teargassing and baton-charging peaceful women and children protesters at the Mari gas field.

The demonstrators, led by Waris Dino Shar, demanded that the Sindh IGP should take action against the police officials concerned.

Meanwhile, a four-member committee, formed by the district Nazim of Ghotki, Ali Gohar Mahar, negotiated with the management of the Mari gas field and Mandhal Shar, who is leading the protest against the gas field management.

The committee discussed demands and proposals of both the sides and prepared a report which would be produced before the district Nazim on Tuesday.

Sanitary worker dies: A sanitary worker was killed and two were injured while cleaning a manhole in Thul town of Jacobabad district on Monday.

Khadim Shaikh, 26, Siddiq, 28, and Qurban, 25, fell unconscious after inhaling poisonous gas while cleaning a manhole.

Khadim died on the spot whereas Siddiq and Qurban were shifted to a Larkana Hospital.

Later, the sanitary workers staged a sit-in in front of the Thul municipal committee and demanded that compensation should be paid to the heirs of the dead man.

On this, Thul Nazim Haji Mohammad Yousuf announced Rs30,000 compensation and the municipal employees their two-days pay for the family of Khadim.
