KARACHI: WHO official to review projects

Published September 15, 2003

KARACHI, Sept 14: The WHO Regional Director for the Eastern Mediterranean Region, Dr. Hussein A. Gezairy arrived here on Sunday.

His visit is coming at a time when the reigns of government has been handed over to the elected representatives both in the federation and the province, and it is critical not only to retain health advantages derived during the previous administration, but to carry them on.

The WHO Coordinator for Sindh, Dr G.N. Kazi, said that the incomplete agenda of health sector should be finished before it took over new challenges, which were warranted by the present situation.

The WHO had been closely working with the democratically elected government on all the above issues, Dr Kazi said.

The WHO Regional Director, Dr Hussein A. Gezairy is expected to review the progress of all these programmes with the local dignitaries. He will be accompanied by the WHO Representative to Pakistan, Dr Khalif Bile Mohammad.

During his visit to Sindh, Dr Gezairy is expected to call on the governor, chief minister, minister for population welfare, and health secretary, besides other senior officers.

Dr Gezairy may also call on the prime minister in Islamabad, inaugurate a national conference on tobacco free initiative and a regional conference on childhood blindness at Al-Shifa Eye Trust, Rawalpindi.

He may also visit Azad Jammu and Kashmir in connection with the Basic Development Needs Programme.—APP
