ISLAMABAD, Sept 13: A meeting of the executive board of the National Highway Authority (NHA) on Saturday accorded approval for establishment of the National Highway Foundation.

The objective of the foundation is to provide all possible facilities to the NHA employees so that they could perform their duties with more devotion and dedication.

The meeting reviewed in detail the various aspects of construction and maintenance of national highways projects underway throughout the country.

According to a press release, the NHA board meeting, which was presided over by the authority chairman, Maj-Gen Farrukh Javed, decided the sale of machinery of Lahore-Islamabad motorway through tendering.

The meeting was told that earlier proper offer was not received for sale of the machinery.

The meeting also approved appointment of officers against BS-18 and BS-17 posts on contract/regular basis, and rental ceilings for NHA employees posted at field offices/project sites.

On this occasion, Maj-Gen Farrukh said: “Our endeavour is to complete the motorways and national highways projects with available resources and to this effect, services of the local experts are being obtained.”

He said uninterrupted flow of traffic on highways was the top priority of the authority. He said before schedule completion of the projects was a great achievement and that measures would be taken to complete other national highways projects as per scheduled time with quality construction so that economic restoration process could be accelerated.
