LAHORE: The Pakistan Kissan Ittehad (PKI) said on Tuesday farmers would participate in the PML-Q rally at the Chunian Stadium in Kasur on Dec 21.

A delegation of the PKI, led by chairman Chaudhry Muhammad Anwar, announced this during a meeting with PML-Q central leader Chaudhry Pervaiz Elahi at his residence here on Tuesday.

PML-Q leader Dr Azeemuddin Zahid Lakhvi was also present.

Kissan leaders said the farmers regarded Mr Elahi their benefactor who during his tenure as the chief minister from 2002 to 2007 had taken historical and revolutionary measures for the prosperity of farmers and maximum increase in the agricultural production. He provided many incentives and facilities to farmers for the first time ever in Pakistan, they said.

Mr Elahi said his party’s vision was that if a farmer was prosperous and satisfied then agricultural production would increase resulting in a prosperous province as well as the country.

“We under this very vision had given importance to resolve the problems of farmers during our tenure,” he said.
