ISLAMABAD, Sept 11: As many as 60 cyclists from 10 teams will compete in the 11th Tour de Pakistan cycle race which will start from Karachi on Oct 11 and wind up at Peshawar on Oct 23 after covering a 1,934-kilometres.
Pakistan Cycling Federation (PCF) has chalked out the schedule of the 11-stages race which was earlier postponed in March because of war in Iraq.
Pedalling off from the Quaid’s Mausoleum in Karachi, the cyclists will call it a day a good 13 days later at Bab-e-Khyber, Peshawar.
Each of the 10 participating teams will consist of six riders who will have rest days at Rahimyar Khan and Lahore on Oct 15 and 20 respectively.
The teams to be represented at the race will be from the four provinces, Wapda, Pakistan Railways, Services and POF.
A sum of Rs. 110,000 will be given away as prizes to the first six finishers of the race.
The top-notcher of the race will be richer by Rs. 50,000, the runners-up by Rs. 25,000 and no.3 by Rs. 15,000. The fourth finisher will get Rs. 10,000 while fifth and sixth finishers will have Rs. 5,000 each.
The following are the 11 stages and their respective distances: 1)—11-10-03, Karachi to Hyderabad (205 km). 2)—12-10-03, Hyderabad to Moro (178 km). 3)—13.10.03, Moro to Sukkur (177 km). 4)—14.10.03, Sukkur to Rahimyar Khan (180 km).
15.10.03, Rest Day at Rahimyar Khan. 5)—16.10.03, Rahimyar Khan to Bahawalpur (210 km). 6)—17.10.03, Bahawalpur to Multan (110 km). 7)—18.10.03, Multan to Sahiwal (188 km). 8)—19.10.03, Sahiwal to Lahore (200 km).
20.10.03 Rest Day at Lahore. 9)—21.10.03, Lahore to Gujrat (130 km). 10)-22.10.03 Gujrat to Rawalpindi (180 km). 11)-23.10.03 Rawalpindi to Peshawar (176 km).—APP
